What services are provided?
Small group instruction, individualized tutoring, pre and post test assessments, multi-media instruction, modeled lessons, running records to monitor Reading Fluency, K-5 Phonics, K-12 Reading Accuracy, K-12 Writing, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, K-12 Math, K-12 Social Studies, and K-12 Science. Preparation for the GED, ACT and SAT and foreign language instruction (French/Spanish) are also offered.

What are tutor qualifications?
Tutors must have at least 2 years of teaching experience. It is preferred that all tutors have had experience working with a diverse group of learners.

What goes on during a "session"?
Tutors begin the daily lesson with a warm-welcome. Prospective students are administered a diagnostic pretest to assist the tutor in developing lesson plans that are individualized and specific to each child's needs. Once the child's academic strengths and weaknesses are determined, the student will begin working with a tutor who will use materials that address the child's areas of weakness. During the teaching session, the tutor will use several techniques, such as 'modeling' and giving 'concrete examples' to help the child understand and move from guided assistance to independent problem solving.

With this approach of building on the areas of weakness, we will have provided your child with a confidence that will allow him/her to be successful in the classroom setting and the LST program.
